In today’s fast-paced world, restful sleep can be elusive. Stress, technology, and constant tasks disrupt our rhythms, causing restless nights.

Thankfully, nature provides lavender, a centuries-old remedy for anxiety and insomnia.

This guide walks you through making your own lavender candles, transforming your environment into a tranquil, sleep-friendly haven.

Materials Needed

  • Soy wax flakes or beeswax pellets
  • Heat-resistant containers (mason jars, vintage teacups, etc.)
  • Cotton wicks
  • Wick stickers or centering devices
  • Lavender essential oil
  • Dried lavender buds (optional)
  • Double boiler or makeshift setup
  • Thermometer
  • Heat-resistant gloves
  • Scissors or craft knife

Step 1: Choosing the Right Wax

I love soy wax for its eco-friendliness and clean burn, making it a favorite for beginners.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for a more luxurious feel, beeswax has a natural honey scent that pairs beautifully with lavender.

Step 2: Selecting Containers

I’ve found that vintage teacups or mason jars add a personal, charming touch to any space.

Don’t forget to ensure they’re heat-resistant and thoroughly clean before use.

Step 3: Choosing Wicks

Wicks are often overlooked, but trust me – choosing the right size is vital.

If your wick is too small or too large, it will affect how your candle burns, so make sure to match the wick to your container size.

Step 4: Melting the Wax

Set up a double boiler (or a heat-safe bowl over a pot of water) and watch the transformation from solid to liquid.

You need to keep an eye on the temperature with a thermometer to ensure you don’t overheat.

Step 5: Adding Lavender Essential Oil

Once the wax is melted, you can add small amount of lavender essential oil and add more if needed.

The scent should be subtle but noticeable without being overpowering.

Step 6: Pouring and Setting

Now, you only need to pour the fragrant wax into your prepared jars. Then, let the candles cool completely, and don’t rush this process.

Once your candles are cool, trim the wicks and clean up any spills.

This is where you can add your personal style with twine, labels, or even a sprig of dried lavender on the side, and put them in your bedroom.
