Here’s a project that balances whimsy with everyday usefulness. Painted black, yogurt jars take on a whole new identity as mini cauldrons.
You can set them out as part of your Halloween décor, but once the season passes, they still work beautifully as holders for matches, pens, or even small plants.
Every time you see them, you’ll be reminded that sometimes the smallest vessels can carry the biggest charm.
Materials Needed
- 2-3 clean yogurt jars (3″ tall × 2.5″ wide)
- Black acrylic spray paint or matte chalk paint (1 can or 4 oz bottle)
- Air-dry clay or polymer clay (about ½ lb)
- Hot glue gun + 3 glue sticks
- Clear sealant spray (optional)
- Paintbrush (if not using spray paint)
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Clean and dry your yogurt jars thoroughly. Then remove labels for a smooth painting surface.
Step 2: Roll small pieces of clay into three or four little feet and two curved handles. Now you can attach them to the jar with hot glue. Let clay dry if using air-dry type.
Step 3: Coat the entire jar with black paint. If using spray paint, do it outdoors in light, even coats. If brushing, apply two coats for a richer finish.
Step 4: Once dry, seal the paint with clear spray to protect against chips.
Step 5: Fill your mini cauldron with whatever you like such as candy for Halloween, matches for cozy evenings, or even a tealight candle for a glowing effect.
Step 6: Style them as a group for a bigger impact. Three little cauldrons lined up together make a scene that feels magical, practical, and delightful all at once.
Tips:
If you want a bubbling potion look, add a bit of green hot glue dripped over the rim or tuck in glittery stones. Small touches make them feel enchanted.
