This project transforms cardboard into a mini bead loom, turning small glass or plastic beads into wearable art.
You’ll find the rhythm of weaving calming, each bead slipping perfectly into place, forming rows of shimmering color.
It’s an ideal craft for kids or anyone who loves slow, mindful making.
Once you tie off the ends, you’ll have a bracelet that looks store-bought but carries your own creative touch.
Materials Needed
- Cardboard piece (3”×8” for each loom)
- Colorful beads (6-8mm size)
- Embroidery floss or nylon thread (4-6 colors)
- Needle suitable for threading beads
- Scissors and tape
- Pattern paper (optional for design planning)
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Cut a sturdy piece of cardboard and make small notches (about ¼ inch apart) on both short ends to hold your warp threads.
Step 2: String your warp threads vertically through the notches, keeping them tight and evenly spaced. Secure the ends with tape on the back.
Step 3: Thread your needle with a long piece of string and add your first row of beads according to your design.
Step 4: Weave the needle under and over the warp threads, making sure each bead sits neatly between them.
You need to repeat this pattern row by row, alternating the direction of your weaving.
Step 5: When your bracelet reaches the desired length, carefully tie off the ends and remove it from the loom. Then add a clasp or braid the ends for a boho finish.
Tips:
You can sketch your bead pattern on graph paper first, it helps to plan color transitions and symmetry before you start weaving.
