Imagine your Christmas tree sparkling with oversized jingle bells that look like they came straight from Santa’s sleigh.
Specially, you can make them with simple mixing bowls from the dollar store!
Add a bow, some greenery, and a little twine, and suddenly your living room feels like the set of a holiday movie.
These giant bells bring an instant wow-factor without costing much at all.
Materials Needed
- 2 stainless steel or plastic mixing bowls (8-10” diameter each)
- Silver spray paint (if using plastic bowls)
- Jute rope (12–16” per ornament)
- Hot glue gun + glue sticks
- Large festive bows (red or plaid, 6-8” wide)
- Small pinecones and greenery sprigs (optional)
- Black acrylic paint
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: If your bowls are plastic, spray paint them silver to mimic the shine of real bells. Let them dry fully before handling.
Step 2: Place two bowls rim-to-rim and hot glue them together to create a round bell shape.
Step 3: Paint small black cut-outs near the bottom edge of the bell to give it that authentic jingle bell look.
Step 4: Cut a piece of jute rope and form a loop for hanging. Then glue it securely to the top of the bell.
Step 5: Finish by hot gluing a large bow to the top, and tuck in small pinecones or greenery for extra holiday flair.
Step 6: Hang your giant jingle bells on the Christmas tree, over your doorway, or cluster them together for a dramatic display.
Tip:
I made a trio of these once and hung them at different heights on my porch, every neighbor who passed by stopped to ask where I bought them!
