Step-by-step Guide on Making Your Own Christmas Hoop Wreath with Village Scene

If you love Christmas décor that feels handmade yet polished, this hoop wreath is a wonderful project.

Instead of traditional evergreen circles, it uses an embroidery hoop as the base for a woodland-inspired design.

Plus, the tiny church, snowy trees, and holiday ribbon bring a nostalgic, storybook quality to it. It’s an ideal piece to craft for your own home or as a heartfelt gift that will be treasured year after year.

Materials Needed

  • 1 large embroidery hoop (10″-12″)
  • 1 roll of plaid wired ribbon (about 2″ wide)
  • Miniature wooden church and small decorative trees (craft store or online)
  • Artificial greenery (lamb’s ear, pine sprigs, or frosted eucalyptus)
  • Artificial berries
  • Hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • Scissors and wire cutters
  • Optional: chalkboard or frame

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Begin with your embroidery hoop. If you prefer, you can stain or paint it to better match your holiday décor. Natural wood gives a rustic feel, while gold or white adds elegance.

Step 2: Arrange your greenery at the bottom half of the hoop. Use a mix of frosted eucalyptus, lamb’s ear, or pine to create fullness. Then secure them in place with hot glue, layering leaves so the hoop remains covered but not bulky.

Step 3: Add clusters of artificial red berries among the greenery. Position them evenly on both sides for balance, letting a few extend outward for a natural look.

Step 4: Attach your miniature church at the center bottom of the hoop. Glue it firmly, then place two small decorative trees on either side to complete the scene.

Step 5: Create a large bow with your plaid ribbon. Because it’s wired, you can shape the loops and tails so they look full and festive.

You also hot glue or tie the bow at the bottom center of the hoop, just below the church.

Step 6: Use another piece of the plaid ribbon to hang the wreath from the top of the hoop.

If you want the layered effect, secure it to a chalkboard or frame and write a seasonal word like “Joy,” “Peace,” or “Merry” behind it with chalk or paint.

Step 7: Hang your wreath on a door, window, or wall. Step back and fluff the greenery and bow as needed.

Tips: If you can’t find a miniature church, substitute with a little house or a wooden star.

For a more farmhouse style, leave the bow off and let the greenery and church be the main focus. Always use wired ribbon as it makes shaping much easier and holds up better over time.
