Imagine a winter cabin, snow falling outside, and this garland stretched across the mantel while the fire crackles.
The dried oranges catch the candlelight, cinnamon adds a spicy aroma, and pinecones remind you of the woods just beyond the window.
It’s a garland that doesn’t just decorate, it tells a seasonal story, one of coziness, tradition, and natural beauty.
Every time you pass it, you’re reminded that simple things such as fruit, spice, pine can create a holiday memory that lingers.
Materials Needed
- 6-7 oranges (sliced into ¼-inch rounds)
- 20-25 cinnamon sticks (about 4” long each)
- 12-15 pinecones (medium size, 3”-4” tall)
- Baking sheet and parchment paper
- Twine or jute cord (8-10 feet)
- Large needle or hot glue gun (depending on how you attach pieces)
- Optional: star anise or bay leaves
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Slice your oranges and bake them at 200°F (90°C) for 3-4 hours until dry. Then flip halfway for even drying.
Step 2: Cut twine to your desired garland length, leaving 10” extra at each end for hanging.
Step 3: Thread pinecones, oranges, and cinnamon sticks onto the twine, alternating for balance. For pinecones, tie twine around the base or use hot glue to secure.
Step 4: Space pieces about 3” apart, adjusting until the garland feels full and balanced.
Step 5: Hang it across your mantel, staircase, or entryway, letting the natural beauty shine.
Notes:
If you want this garland to last longer, spray the dried oranges lightly with clear craft sealer. It will keep the color bright and prevent crumbling.
