If you love working with fabric scraps, this is the ornament for you!
Each folded piece builds the branches of a little tree, giving it texture and depth.
The gingham pattern makes it extra festive, but you can use any fabric you love.
It’s a fun craft that turns leftover materials into a decoration that instantly warms your tree.
Materials Needed
- Wooden craft round – 4-5″ diameter
- Fabric scraps (green or patterned) – about 12-15 pieces, each 1.5″ x 2″
- Twine – 12″ for hanging + small piece for bow
- Hot glue gun & glue sticks – 1-2 sticks
- White acrylic paint – 2-3 tsp for snowy bottom & dots
- Paintbrush (small, size 4-6)
- Scissors for trimming fabric and twine
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Paint the bottom of the wooden round white for the snowy ground and add small white dots for snowflakes. Let dry.
Step 2: Fold fabric pieces into small leaf-like shapes (fold the sides inward to form a point) and secure with a dab of hot glue.
Step 3: Starting at the bottom, glue the fabric folds in a layered, tree-like pattern, overlapping slightly to create depth.
Step 4: Add a small twine bow to the top of the tree, and glue a loop of twine at the back for hanging.
Step 5: Touch up any spots with extra white paint to make the snowy effect pop.
Tip:
Try different fabrics (plaid, burlap, or velvet) for a collection of unique little trees that look stunning grouped together.
