Think of these as mini potpourri worlds captured in glass. Each ornament tells its own story: cinnamon for warmth, lavender for calm, rosebuds for love.
When I give these as gifts, I imagine my friends unwrapping them and instantly feeling the charm of handmade magic.
The best part is how customizable they are, you get to choose which herbs, spices, or dried flowers mean the most to you.
Materials Needed
- 3-4 clear plastic or glass fillable ornaments (3” size works well)
- 1/4 cup dried lavender buds
- 1/4 cup dried chamomile flowers
- 1/4 cup mini rosebuds or petals
- 2–3 cinnamon sticks (broken into smaller pieces)
- 2 tbsp dried rosemary or pine needles
- Wax beads (red, black, or gold)
- Twine or ribbon (12” per ornament)
- Small charms (optional)
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Open your clear ornaments and decide which herb or spice blend you’d like to use. I usually combine one floral, one woody, and one spice for balance.
Step 2: Layer the herbs gently into the ornament.
For example: lavender, then cinnamon, then a sprinkle of rose petals. Don’t pack them too tightly as it looks prettier when the ingredients move slightly.
Step 3: Close the ornament securely. If you’re using wax seals, melt the beads carefully and drip around the top. Let it cool for a rustic, sealed finish.
Step 4: Add twine or ribbon through the ornament loop for hanging. You can tie a small charm or bell for extra detail.
Step 5: Hang on your Christmas tree or gift them in a little box lined with tissue. They’re beautiful both as décor and as a keepsake that lasts for years.
Note:
I’ve found that rosemary and chamomile keep their scent the longest, while rosebuds add that soft pop of color.
