Cassette tapes may no longer play in your car, but they can still light up your life.
This cassette tower lamp feels like something you’d see in a cool indie café or a creative workspace.
Also, the tapes stack neatly into a column, with the bulb hidden inside, making it look like your favorite tracks are glowing from within.
If you’re a collector at heart, this is a way to keep your cassettes on display without the dust.
Materials Needed
- 30-40 cassette tapes (with clear or translucent cases)
- Hot glue gun or strong adhesive
- LED light strip or tube light (low-heat for safety)
- Power cord with switch
- Optional: spray paint or vinyl stickers
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Gather enough cassette tapes to form the height of lamp you want, around 30 to 40 works for a tall tower.
Clear or translucent cases give the best light effect.
Step 2: Start by gluing tapes together into panels, four tapes wide makes a good side wall.
Then create four of these panels to form your tower’s frame.
Step 3: Assemble the panels into a box shape, leaving the top open. You can use extra glue along the edges to keep everything secure.
Step 4: Insert your LED strip or tube light inside the tower. Make sure to use LEDs since they give off little heat and are safe around plastic.
Step 5: Secure the light cord so it runs neatly out of the base without wobbling the tower.
Step 6: Place your lamp on a flat surface, plug it in, and enjoy the glowing retro vibes.
Tips:
You can arrange the tapes so the labels face outward for a storytelling effect, your old playlists will literally light up the room.
