Light Up Your Reading Nook with a Book Tower Lamp

Light Up Your Reading Nook with a Book Tower LampImagine your favorite books rising into a tower and transforming into a glowing beacon for your evenings.

That’s exactly what this lamp feels like, a magical pile that escaped the library to light up your world.

A stack of novels holds up the bulb, topped with a cage-like lampshade that adds a touch of industrial chic.

The books don’t just sit quietly anymore; they become the backbone of a design that feels both nostalgic and modern.

Materials Needed

  • 20-30 hardcover books (old or thrifted works best)
  • Floor lamp kit (bulb socket, wiring, and switch)
  • Metal cage lampshade or fabric shade (depending on your style)
  • Wooden base (approx. 14”×14”)
  • Drill with hole saw attachment
  • Metal rod or lamp pipe
  • Warm Edison bulb or LED bulb
  • Strong adhesive or epoxy (optional)

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Choose the books you want to use. You can mix sizes and colors for a more eclectic look, or stick to similar tones for a polished finish.

Step 2: Drill a hole through the center of each book, making sure they line up for the lamp rod to pass through.

Step 3: Mount the lamp rod onto your wooden base, securing it tightly so the stack won’t wobble.

Step 4: Begin threading the books onto the rod one by one. Then tilt or angle a few to give the illusion of a casually toppling pile.

Step 5: When the stack reaches your desired height, attach the lamp socket at the top.

Step 6: Add your lampshade and screw in the bulb. An Edison bulb works beautifully here, casting a golden glow that matches the nostalgic theme.

Step 7: Plug it in, step back, and watch your tower of books glow with character and charm.

Tips:

If you want to preserve favorite titles, use thrift-store books for drilling and tuck a few meaningful volumes near the top of the stack just for show.
