How to Weave a Heart of Colors with Simple YarnIf you’ve ever wanted to make something that feels as comforting as it looks, this woven heart is a beautiful start.

Cut a heart from cardboard, string it with warp lines, and weave through with colorful yarn, watch how the shades blend and textures bloom.

Every loop you make feels meditative, a reminder that beauty often grows from small, intentional moments.

You can use leftover yarn for an eco-friendly touch and add tassels or beads for flair. It’s an art piece made by hand, but felt by heart.

Materials Needed

  • Cardboard (cut into a 6-8-inch heart shape)
  • Yarn in 2-3 complementary colors (1-2 feet each)
  • Scissors
  • Tape or glue
  • Plastic needle or weaving stick
  • Pencil for marking notches

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Cut a heart shape from sturdy cardboard and draw small notches (½ inch apart) around the edges.

Step 2: Thread yarn through the notches vertically to form your warp threads, securing the ends with tape at the back.

Step 3: Begin weaving horizontally, alternating over and under each strand. Then use a plastic needle for easier threading.

Step 4: Change yarn colors every few rows to create beautiful gradients or layered textures.

Step 5: Once filled, gently push the yarn together for a fuller look, then tie or glue the ends at the back.

Step 6: Display your woven heart as a wall hanging or attach a loop to make it a heartfelt ornament.

Tips:

You should try using mixed yarn textures such as fluffy, silky, or chunky to add depth and character.
