How to Turn Yogurt Jars into Festive Snowflake Candle Holders

It’s as if winter has been captured in glass with snowflakes frozen mid-dance, lit from within by a golden flame. These little jars, once ordinary, become storytellers of the season.

The glow feels like warmth breaking through frost, a reminder of the light we gather around when the world outside turns cold.

Plus, each luminary is like a snow-kissed lantern, guiding you into the quiet beauty of winter nights.

Materials Needed

  • 6-8 small yogurt jars, washed and dried
  • White spray paint or acrylic paint (frosted finish works beautifully)
  • Snowflake stencils or stickers (4-6 designs)
  • Silver or gold twine/ribbon (2-3 feet)
  • Mod Podge or clear-drying glue (optional)
  • Tea light or LED candles

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Clean your jars and remove any labels or glue residue. Then dry them completely before painting.

Step 2: Place a snowflake stencil (or sticker) on the front of each jar. You press firmly so paint doesn’t leak underneath.

Step 3: Spray or brush the jars with white paint, covering the glass evenly. For a frosted effect, you can apply two light coats rather than one thick layer. Let them dry fully.

Step 4: Carefully peel off the stencil to reveal a clear snowflake window where the candlelight will shine through.

Step 5: Wrap a piece of silver or gold twine around the rim of the jar and tie a simple bow. For extra sparkle, you can brush a thin coat of Mod Podge with glitter along the rim.

Step 6: Place a tea light or LED candle inside each jar. Arrange them in clusters to create a soft, glowing winter display.

Tips:

I once placed these along a windowsill during December, and the way the light spilled onto the snow outside was breathtaking.

If you want a more colorful version, try using pale blue or icy silver paint instead of white.
