How to Turn Pressed Leaves and Flowers into Storybook ArtYou can give forgotten book pages a second life by layering pressed flowers and leaves over the printed text.

The result looks like an antique illustration, but made with your own hand-collected treasures.

Additionally, these make wonderful wall pieces, gifts, or keepsakes, and they’re surprisingly simple to create.

Materials Needed

  • Pressed flowers and leaves (ferns, daisies, wildflowers work well)
  • Old book pages (preferably with aged edges for character)
  • Wooden plaques or cardboard backing
  • Glue stick or Mod Podge
  • Small paintbrush
  • Optional: clear varnish or sealant for preservation

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Choose book pages with text that appeals to you such as poetry, old stories, or even science manuals can add charm.

Step 2: Press flowers and leaves flat for at least a week. Ferns and delicate blossoms look especially striking on text.

Step 3: Mount your chosen page onto a plaque or stiff backing using glue. Then smooth gently with a brush to avoid wrinkles.

Step 4: Arrange your pressed pieces like illustrations on the page. You might cluster small flowers at corners or place a single fern down the middle.

Step 5: Secure the botanicals with a thin layer of glue or Mod Podge. Let it dry fully before handling.

Step 6: Finish with a clear coat if you’d like added durability, then hang or gift your piece as a one-of-a-kind artwork.

Tip:

Try layering flowers over text that matches their mood like roses with love poems, ferns with nature writing. It makes the final piece even more soulful.
