Imagine each car in your collection parked neatly inside its own pit stop, waiting for the next big race.
By recycling an old tire and adding shelves, you’ve created a racetrack wall of memories.
Every shiny paint job, every detail of those miniature wheels, now lives inside a frame that nods to the thrill of driving.
It’s rugged, it’s playful, and it tells anyone who sees it: here lives a collector who knows how to turn passion into décor.
Materials Needed
- 1 old tire (bicycle or car, cleaned thoroughly)
- Wooden planks (cut to fit across the tire, approx. 3-4” wide)
- Strong screws
- Wall-mounting hardware (heavy-duty anchors and hooks)
- Sandpaper and paint (optional)
- Toy cars or diecast car collection
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Clean the tire well, scrubbing off dirt or grease. If you’d like, spray-paint it to give it a polished finish.
Step 2: Measure the interior diameter of the tire and cut wooden planks to fit snugly inside. Then sand the edges for smoothness.
Step 3: Secure the planks across the tire with screws or brackets, evenly spacing them to create multiple levels for cars.
Step 4: Install heavy-duty anchors on the wall and mount the tire shelf securely. A filled tire can get heavy, so make sure it’s well-supported.
Step 5: Arrange your cars along the shelves. You can group them by color, series, or even line them up like a starting grid for a race.
Step 6: Step back and admire how your old tire has become a conversation piece that holds your favorite collection.
Tips:
I’ve seen people add LED strip lights inside the rim for a glowing racetrack effect.
It makes the cars pop, especially in dimly lit rooms, and adds a touch of drama to the display.
