When I made a version of this, I felt like I was creating a dollhouse for the holidays.
Every little detail including striped chair, tiny wreath, presents tucked under the tree made me smile.
You can add whatever feels personal: a book on the chair, a cup of cocoa, or even family photos in miniature frames.
Materials Needed
- 1 decorative lantern with glass sides (12-16 inches tall)
- Miniature armchair or dollhouse furniture (about 3-4 inches tall)
- 1-2 bottle brush Christmas trees (6-8 inches tall)
- Mini presents or wrapped gift boxes (1-2 inches each)
- Tiny holiday wreath (3-4 inches diameter)
- Mini garland or faux greenery (12-18 inches)
- Battery-operated LED tea light or fairy lights
- Glue gun and glue sticks
- Small holiday figurines or personal mini accents
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Open your lantern and clean the glass panels so the display inside will be crystal clear.
Step 2: Place a piece of felt or cardstock on the bottom to create a floor. This makes it easier to glue items down securely.
Step 3: Position your miniature chair inside the lantern, adding a tiny cushion or folded fabric to make it look inviting.
Step 4: Place a bottle brush tree in the corner, securing it with glue. Then add a few miniature presents beneath the branches.
Step 5: Glue a small wreath onto the back panel and drape garland along the inside mantel area or edges.
Step 6: Tuck in fairy lights around the scene, hiding the battery pack at the back. When lit, the glow brings the whole miniature room to life.
Step 7: Add finishing touches like a mini book on the chair or a small figurine for personality, then close the lantern door and enjoy your magical room-in-a-box.
Tip:
If you’re gifting this, write a small card about the story of the scene, it makes the gift even more special.
