How to Transform a Plain Lampshade with Pressed FlowersPicture turning on your bedside lamp at night and seeing tiny blossoms illuminated like stained glass.

This project blends practicality with poetry, transforming simple lighting into an art piece that tells a story of nature, light, and calm evenings.

It’s one of those small details that changes the entire atmosphere of a room.

Materials Needed

  • 1 plain lampshade (8”-12” diameter works best)
  • Pressed flowers and leaves (10-15 pieces in varying sizes)
  • Mod Podge or clear-drying craft glue (8 oz)
  • Soft bristle brush (1” wide)
  • Wax paper
  • Small tweezers
  • Optional: Clear acrylic spray (150ml can)

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Place your lampshade on wax paper to keep the surface clean. Make sure it’s dust-free before starting.

Step 2: Arrange your pressed flowers on the lampshade without glue first, experimenting with placement.

You can also try taller stems at the bottom and smaller blossoms higher up for a natural look.

Step 3: Using the brush, apply a thin layer of Mod Podge where you want the flower to sit.

Now, place the flower carefully with tweezers, then gently smooth it down with your finger or brush.

Step 4: Once all flowers are placed, coat the entire lampshade with a thin layer of Mod Podge. Let it dry fully (about 2-3 hours).

Step 5: If you’d like extra durability, finish with a light spray of clear acrylic sealant. Finally, allow at least 24 hours to cure before using the lamp.

Tip:

You can choose translucent petals like daisies, pansies, or ferns when the lamp glows, they’ll look magical, almost like stained glass.
