How to Sew a Pumpkin Pie Slice Pillow That Looks Good Enough to Eat

Imagine pulling a pumpkin pie from the oven on Thanksgiving day, its warm spices filling the air. That same joy is captured here in pillow form.

The triangular design, topped with a plush swirl of whipped cream, feels like a playful nod to family dinners and holiday traditions.

Also, adding one to your living room feels like sneaking dessert before dinner, without any guilt at all.

Materials Needed

  • Orange patterned cotton fabric (½ yard for pie filling)
  • Tan fleece or felt (½ yard for “crust” edge)
  • White fleece or felt (¼ yard)
  • Polyester stuffing
  • Thread in tan and orange
  • Sewing machine or hand needle
  • Scissors and pins
  • Paper for triangle template (about 14” base × 18” sides)

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Create a triangle pattern using paper or cardboard to represent a slice of pie. You can use this as a template to cut two triangles from orange fabric.

Step 2: Cut strips of tan fleece about 3-4” wide and long enough to ruffle around the curved edge of the triangle. Gather slightly as you sew to form a crust-like texture.

Step 3: Pin the crust piece along the wide top edge of one triangle and stitch securely.

You now place the second triangle on top, right sides together, and sew around the edges, leaving a small opening.

Step 4: Turn the piece right-side out and stuff with polyester filling until plump. Then stitch the opening closed neatly.

Step 5: To make the whipped cream, cut a white fleece circle, stuff lightly, and stitch edges to form a rounded puff. Then attach to the center of the slice with small hidden stitches.

Tips:

When I made a pie slice pillow, I discovered that using patterned fabric for the filling (like floral or swirled designs) gave it extra depth.

If you’re making multiple slices, stitch a few together to create a full pie display on your sofa. It looks adorable for Thanksgiving gatherings!
