How to Sew a Cozy Felt Mitten GarlandImagine a row of little mittens drying by the fire after a day in the snow, that’s the feeling this garland brings to your home.

Each mitten is like a tiny keepsake, hand-stitched with care and filled with soft padding to make them look plump and real.

Hanging them with mini clothespins on a rustic twine string adds a touch of nostalgia, as though you’re hanging up childhood memories.

Materials Needed

  • Felt sheets in red, green, and white (9”×12” each, 2–3 sheets per color)
  • Embroidery thread (red, green, white; 1 skein each)
  • Embroidery needle (size 5-7)
  • Polyfill stuffing (small bag, 4-6 oz)
  • Jute twine or string (6-7 ft long)
  • Mini wooden clothespins (10-12 pieces, 1” size)
  • Scissors
  • Paper mitten template (about 3.5” tall, 2.5” wide)

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Cut out a mitten template from paper and trace it onto felt sheets. Then cut 20-24 mitten shapes (2 per finished mitten).

Step 2: Use embroidery thread to add simple snowflake or star designs on the front pieces before assembling.

Step 3: Place two mitten pieces together and stitch around the edges using a blanket stitch. You now leave the top open.

Step 4: Stuff lightly with polyfill to give each mitten some puff, then stitch the opening closed.

Step 5: Clip finished mittens onto the jute twine using mini clothespins, spacing them about 4-5 inches apart.

Step 6: Hang the garland across your mantel, window frame, or stair railing for a cozy handmade touch.

Tips:

You can personalize each mitten with initials or tiny felt shapes (like stars or hearts) to make the garland even more unique.
