How to Make Playful Pom-Pom Ice Cream Cones for Parties and DecorImagine walking into a room where the “ice cream” never drips and the cones never crumble.

These pom-pom ice cream cones feel like little scoops of happiness suspended in midair.

Bright yarn pom-poms perch on paper cones, looking so realistic you’ll want to grab one for a taste.

Strung together, they turn into a playful garland that whispers childhood memories of sticky fingers and endless summer nights.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn in bright colors (6-8 skeins for variety)
  • Cardstock or kraft paper (cut into 6” circles)
  • Hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • Small red pom-poms or beads
  • Twine or ribbon

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Make your pom-poms by wrapping yarn around your fingers or a pom-pom maker. Then cut and tie them tightly, then fluff and trim into round scoops.

Step 2: Cut cardstock into circles, then roll each into a cone shape.

You can secure with hot glue along the edge. Then draw criss-cross lines with a marker to mimic waffle cones if you’d like.

Step 3: Glue your pom-pom ice cream scoop onto the top of the cone.

Step 4: Add a small red pom-pom or bead to the top for the cherry.

Step 5: Attach a string or twine loop at the top of the cone if you want to hang them as ornaments or a garland.

Tips:

I like making a rainbow set and hanging them across the mantel for a cheerful, quirky touch.

They’re also adorable as party décor, guests can even take one home as a keepsake!
