Indian corn has always been a symbol of abundance, and this beaded version captures that spirit beautifully.
As you string the beads, each row feels like weaving your own harvest story.
The finished cobs radiate warmth with their earthy tones and natural raffia husks, perfect for scattering across your Thanksgiving table or nestling into a basket centerpiece.
It’s a simple craft that celebrates tradition while giving it a colorful, handmade twist.
Materials Needed
- Pipe cleaners (brown or tan, 12” length) – 3 per corn cob
- Assorted pony beads (red, yellow, blue, white, brown, orange) – about 50 per cob
- Raffia strands (6-8 pieces, 6” each)
- Scissors
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Twist three pipe cleaners together at one end, leaving about an inch at the top for tying later. Then spread the other ends apart like a fan.
Step 2: Thread pony beads onto each pipe cleaner, mixing colors to resemble the kernels of Indian corn. Fill until about 2 inches of pipe cleaner remain at the bottom.
Step 3: Gather the bottom ends and twist them together to form the base of the cob. This secures all the beaded rows in place.
Step 4: Tie raffia strands around the top of the cob to create the husks. Trim if needed for a natural look.
Step 5: Fan out the raffia for a rustic finish, and display your beaded corn in a bowl, basket, or along your holiday table runner.
Tips:
For a more authentic look, stick with earthy tones like red, amber, and brown. For a fun modern twist, go bold with blues, purples, or metallic beads.
