How to Make an Adorable Slinky Dog Costume for Two KidsSlinky Dog has always been the loyal, stretchy sidekick in Toy Story, and turning your little ones into him is pure magic.

Watching them toddle together, joined by a coiled slinky, feels like playtime has come to life.

It’s the kind of costume that isn’t just about Halloween, it’s about making a memory you’ll laugh about for years.

Materials Needed

  • 2 brown baby/toddler costumes or brown fabric onesies (size appropriate)
  • 2 green felt pieces (6″ × 6″) for collars
  • 2 pairs of felt dog ears (about 4″ long each)
  • 2 pairs of tan felt booties (to look like paws)
  • 1 large plastic slinky (20-24″ long when stretched lightly)
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Elastic bands (½” wide)
  • Brown felt (½ yard) for body covers if you’re making DIY tunics

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Dress both children in brown onesies or tunics to create the dog body. Then add tan felt booties to mimic paws.

Step 2: Attach green felt collars around their necklines with safety pins or fabric glue. This small touch helps them look instantly like Slinky Dog.

Step 3: Add floppy felt ears to their hoods or hats. You now secure with hot glue or sew them in place for durability.

Step 4: Take your plastic slinky and stretch it to a safe, comfortable length between the two kids.

Next, attach each end to the back of their costumes using elastic bands sewn or glued onto the fabric.

Step 5: Make sure the slinky isn’t stretched too tight, it should bounce playfully but not restrict movement.

Step 6: Let your little Slinky Dog duo waddle together, and prepare for all the awws you’ll hear!

Note:

This works best for siblings or friends close in age so they can walk comfortably side by side.

For extra detail, you could paint their faces with a dog nose and whiskers.
