There’s something heartwarming about making ornaments that double as thoughtful gifts.
These macrame wreaths are the kind of project you can sit down with on a cozy evening, cup of cocoa nearby, and finish a handful in no time.
Once done, they’re perfect for decorating your own tree or tying onto wrapped gifts for an extra personal touch.
Guests and friends will love them and you’ll love how simple they are to create.
Materials Needed
- Macrame cord (3-5 mm thick, 6-8 ft per wreath, in red, green, or white)
- Metal or wooden rings (2-3” diameter, 10-12 pieces if making a batch)
- Hot glue gun or craft glue
- Mini bells (½” size, 1 per wreath)
- Ribbon for bows (gold, plaid, or white, cut into 6” strips)
- Scissors
- Gold string or twine for hanging (6” per ornament)
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Cut a length of macrame cord (about 6-8 feet).
Then fold it in half and attach it to your ring using a lark’s head knot. Continue adding cords until the ring is evenly covered.
Step 2: Start braiding, knotting, or simply wrapping the cord around the ring until you’ve formed a chunky, textured wreath.
Keep the tension even so the wreath looks full and round.
Step 3: Trim and tuck the cord ends at the back using hot glue to secure them neatly.
Step 4: Tie a small bow from your ribbon and glue it at the top or bottom of the wreath.
Next, add a mini bell in the center with hot glue or string for that classic Christmas charm.
Step 5: Cut a 6” piece of gold string or twine, loop it through the top, and knot it securely to create a hanger.
Step 6: Repeat with different ribbon styles and cord colors to create a full collection of mini wreaths.
Tip:
These look lovely not just on the tree but also tied to wine bottles, tucked into stockings, or even used as napkin rings for your holiday dinner table.
