This project is all about balance, strong lines of the frame softened with cheerful ornaments. It’s ideal if you’re looking for a small-scale tree that doesn’t take up space but still spreads joy.
Materials Needed
- 12-14 wood shims (8″ long)
- Wood glue or hot glue
- Black paint or stain
- 12-15 mini ornaments (mix of red and white works beautifully)
- Thin craft wire or black twine
- Small saw
- Sandpaper (120 grit)
- Optional: glitter spray
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Begin by arranging your shims into a triangular tree shape. You can use two longer sides and a shorter base. Then trim if necessary so the angles meet neatly.
Step 2: Glue the frame together and let it dry completely. You may want to reinforce the joints with extra glue for durability.
Step 3: Once the frame is solid, paint or stain it. Black looks bold and contrasts well with red and white ornaments, but any color can match your décor.
Step 4: String two or three rows of wire or twine across the triangle, evenly spaced. This will hold your ornaments. Make sure it’s pulled taut so the ornaments hang straight.
Step 5: Hang your mini baubles carefully. Alternate colors and sizes to give it a balanced look.
Step 6: Finally, you just set the finished tree on a tabletop, shelf, or mantle.
