This mobile looks like summer bottled up and hung by your window.
Moreover, the dried orange slices catch the day’s light, while beads add weight and rhythm to the design.
Every time it moves, it feels like a small celebration of nature’s beauty. It’s a wonderful project for when you want to bring sunshine indoors, even on cloudy days.
Materials Needed
- 8-10 dried orange slices (2-3 inches wide)
- Wooden beads (various sizes, 20-25 pieces)
- Natural jute twine or cotton cord (about 3-4 feet)
- 1 grapevine or wooden hoop (6-8 inches diameter)
- Scissors
- Needle or skewer
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Cut 4-6 lengths of twine, each about 15-18 inches long. These will be your hanging strands.
Step 2: Using a needle or skewer, carefully poke a small hole at the top of each dried orange slice for threading.
Step 3: Thread an orange slice onto a piece of twine, knotting underneath to keep it in place.
Next, add a wooden bead, then another orange slice, repeating until you have a pleasing pattern.
Step 4: Once each strand is filled, tie the top ends securely to the grapevine or wooden hoop.
Adjust the lengths so the slices hang at different heights for a cascading effect.
Step 5: Cut three equal lengths of twine and tie them evenly around the hoop. Now bring them together at the top and knot to create a strong loop for hanging.
Step 6: Hang the mobile in front of a sunny window. Watch as the oranges glow beautifully, like tiny amber lanterns.
Tips:
If you want extra movement, add small bells at the bottom of each strand. They’ll create a soft sound when the mobile sways in the breeze.
