How to Make A Sweet and Festive Gift Made in Your Kitchen

Christmas jam is more than just fruit preserved in sugar, it’s a little story of the season in every jar.

Strawberries, cranberries, and oranges come together with a hint of spice, creating a rich flavor that feels both nostalgic and refreshing.

Wrapped with a simple ribbon, these jars make thoughtful gifts for neighbors, teachers, or anyone who appreciates something handmade.

Materials Needed

  • 3 cups fresh strawberries (hulled and chopped)
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 2 medium oranges (zested and juiced)
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger (or 1 tsp ground ginger)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (1.75 oz) fruit pectin
  • 5–6 glass canning jars with lids (8 oz each)
  • Large pot and wooden spoon
  • Ladle and funnel

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Prepare your jars by washing them in hot soapy water and rinsing well. Then place them in boiling water for 10 minutes to sterilize.

Step 2: In a large pot, combine strawberries, cranberries, orange zest, and juice.

Next, add ginger and cinnamon sticks. Cook over medium heat until cranberries burst and strawberries soften (about 10 minutes).

Step 3: Remove cinnamon sticks. Use a potato masher or immersion blender to break down the fruit into a thick mixture, leaving some texture if you like chunky jam.

Step 4: Stir in fruit pectin and bring the mixture to a rolling boil.

Also, you can add sugar all at once, stirring constantly. Return to a boil and cook for 1-2 minutes until jam thickens.

Step 5: Skim off any foam from the surface.

Carefully ladle the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch space at the top. Then wipe rims clean, then seal with lids.

Step 6: For longer storage, process jars in boiling water for 10 minutes.

If gifting right away, let cool fully and add festive labels and ribbons.

Note:

I like to tie a small cinnamon stick or sprig of rosemary around the jar as it makes the gift feel extra special and carries the scent of the season.
