How to Make a Playful Ghost Pillow With Yarn Tassels for Halloween

These little yarn ghosts look like they floated out of a storybook Their strands sway slightly when you move the pillow, almost like they’re drifting across the air.

Also, each one feels like a tiny character, turning your pillow into a gathering of friendly spirits. It’s the kind of decoration that makes guests smile, especially children, and it adds a handmade softness to Halloween decorating.

You can imagine curling up with this pillow and a blanket while watching your favorite fall movies.

Materials Needed

  • 1 rectangular pillow cover (12”×20” or similar, in neutral fabric)
  • White yarn (about 20-30 strands per ghost, 5-6” each)
  • Black felt or small black buttons
  • Fabric glue or needle and thread
  • Scissors
  • Pencil and ruler
  • 1 pillow insert

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Cut several strands of white yarn, each about 5-6” long. Then group about 20 strands together to form one ghost.

Step 2: Tie the group of yarn strands at the top with another piece of yarn, leaving a small loop above for the “head.” Trim the ends evenly.

Step 3: Glue or stitch the yarn ghosts directly onto the pillow cover. You should space them evenly in rows for a neat pattern.

Step 4: Cut out tiny circles of black felt or use small buttons for eyes. Then glue or sew them onto each ghost.

Step 5: Once all ghosts are secured, insert the pillow form and fluff it up.

Tips:

I found that making the yarn ghosts slightly different in size gave the pillow more personality, like a mix of big and little spirits.

If you want an extra festive touch, use glow-in-the-dark fabric paint for the eyes so the ghosts come alive at night.
