With this felt garland, you sew those stories into colorful slices that never grow stale.
The latticework hints at grandmother’s cherry pie, the pumpkin slice recalls cozy evenings by the fire, and the pecan piece whispers of southern tables.
As you string them together, it feels like tying together generations of Thanksgiving traditions into one cheerful decoration.
Materials Needed
- 6 sheets of tan felt (9”×12”) for pie crusts
- 2 sheets of orange felt (9”×12”) for pumpkin pie slices
- 2 sheets of brown felt (9”×12”) for pecan pie slices
- 2 sheets of red felt (9”×12”) for cherry pie slices
- 1 sheet of blue felt (9”×12”) for blueberry pie slices
- 1 small piece of white felt (4”×4”) or a cotton ball
- 1 hot glue gun with 5–6 glue sticks (or fabric glue, 50 ml)
- 1 embroidery needle + 1 skein of beige/brown thread (optional)
- 1 roll of twine or ribbon (about 6 ft long)
- 8 small clips or pins
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Cut 8 triangular bases (about 4” tall × 3” wide) from tan felt for the pie slices.
Step 2: Layer colored felt pieces on top to represent different fillings including orange for pumpkin, red for cherry, brown for pecan, and blue for blueberry.
Step 3: Add details by cutting strips (½” wide × 4” long) for lattice crusts, tiny circles (½” diameter) for pecans, and teardrops (1” tall) for blueberries.
Step 4: Use hot glue or stitch edges together. Then, attach a small tuft of white felt or cotton to pumpkin slices for whipped cream.
Step 5: Space the finished slices evenly along a 6 ft length of twine or ribbon and glue them securely in place.
Step 6: Hang your garland across the mantel, doorway, or shelf to instantly bring Thanksgiving charm into your space.
Tips:
If you want a fuller garland, double the number of slices and alternate flavors. For a rustic touch, use burlap ribbon instead of twine as the base.
