Nothing is better than walking into a mountain lodge at Christmastime, warm fire glowing, wood floors creaking, and these oversized baubles greeting you at the entry.
The buffalo plaid ribbons give them that timeless rustic touch, while the frosted pine and red berries make them pop with festive spirit.
They hang in a cascade, like ornaments plucked from a giant tree and tied together with care.
It’s a look that feels both nostalgic and modern, making your home a little cozier and a lot more welcoming.
Materials Needed
- 3 oversized plastic or foam baubles (8”-10” diameter, white or frosted finish)
- 3 plaid ribbon bows (4”-6” wide, pre-made or DIY)
- 3 artificial poinsettias (medium size, 4”-5”)
- 6-8 faux evergreen sprigs (6”-8” long)
- 3-4 pinecones (frosted or glittered)
- Red berry picks (3-4 clusters)
- Jute rope or thick twine (3-4 ft)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Scissors
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Start by attaching jute rope to the tops of each bauble.
You should leave extra length at the top so you can hang them in a cascading arrangement later.
Step 2: Prepare the greenery clusters by grouping faux pine, berries, and pinecones together. Then glue them securely to form mini sprays.
Step 3: Glue a poinsettia flower and one greenery spray to the top of each bauble.
Let the leaves and berries drape naturally over the curve of the ornament.
Step 4: Tie or glue a plaid ribbon bow just above each arrangement. Fluff the loops so they look full and festive.
Step 5: Once all three baubles are decorated, tie their ropes together at staggered heights. This gives the cluster a layered look that feels lively and balanced.
Step 6: Hang the finished set on a door, wall, or porch hook. Then adjust the spacing so the baubles don’t bump into each other and the bows sit forward.
Tip:
If you’d like to use this outdoors, spray the baubles and greenery with a clear weatherproof sealer to help them last through the season.
