How to Create a Farmhouse Easter Centerpiece with Shim Carrots and Bunnies

This craft is like bottling the spirit of Easter morning and setting it right on your table.

You can see the carrots look rustic yet vibrant, their orange tones brightened with twine tops and greenery sprigs, while the bunnies, painted in soft cream shades stand quietly, wearing their little bowties like proud hosts of the season.

Plus, the whole scene whispers farm fresh, blending handmade creativity with natural textures. It’s an invitation to slow down and savor the small joys of spring.

Materials Needed

  • 12-15 wood shims (8″ length)
  • Acrylic paint: orange, cream/white, black, and light green
  • Small fabric scraps (buffalo check or plaid works beautifully)
  • Twine or jute rope (12-18″)
  • Faux greenery sprigs (about 3-4 small pieces)
  • Hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • Sandpaper
  • Optional: mini bows, floral embellishments, or wood beads

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Begin by trimming and arranging wood shims into triangle shapes for the carrots and simple bunny silhouettes (two sizes: small and medium). Then sand the edges lightly to smooth out splinters.

Step 2: Paint the carrot shapes a bold orange. For the bunnies, use cream or white paint, and once dry, distress the edges with sandpaper for a rustic, weathered look.

Step 3: Wrap some carrots in fabric scraps to give them farmhouse texture.

You need to secure the fabric with hot glue at the top and bottom. Tie twine or jute at the tops, fluffing the ends to look like roots, then tuck in sprigs of faux greenery.

Step 4: Add small bow embellishments to the bunnies. You can use fabric scraps, pre-made bows, or even tie your own from ribbon. Tiny floral accents or buttons add extra charm.

Step 5: Arrange everything in a shallow tray, adding filler like faux greenery or wood beads to complete the look.

Now you can place the bunnies toward the back and carrots at the front to create layered depth.
