Like ethereal beings descended from the garden’s dreams, these okra angel ornaments flutter with grace.
Each pod, painted and adorned with lace wings, carries a heart of love, its yarn hair swaying like a soft breeze, telling a tale of earth’s bounty transformed into celestial beauty for your festive haven.
Materials Needed
- 6-9 dried okra pods (long and slightly curved)
- Purple or metallic paint
- Small wooden beads or cork pieces
- Yarn in various colors
- Lace or fabric scraps
- Red felt hearts with “XOXO” or similar embroidery
- Hot glue gun or eco-friendly craft glue
- Gold twine or thread (6-8 inches per ornament)
- Small paintbrushes and markers
- Scissors
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Pick out your dried okra pods, selecting ones with a gentle curve to shape the angel’s flowing form.
Then paint them purple or a metallic shade, letting them dry fully to set the stage for their heavenly look.
Step 2: Glue a wooden bead or cork to the top of each pod as the head.
You can ue a fine marker to draw a simple smiling face including small dots for eyes and a curved line for a smile to give your angel personality.
Step 3: Cut yarn into 4-6 inch strands and glue them around the head for hair, fluffing it out to create a wild, flowing mane in colors like red, blonde, or brown.
Step 4: Cut lace or fabric scraps into wing shapes, about 2-3 inches wide, and glue them to the back of the pod, angling them upward like delicate angel wings ready to soar.
Step 5: Attach a red felt heart with “XOXO” or a similar design to the front of the pod, securing it with glue as a symbol of love at the angel’s heart.
Step 6: Tie a loop of gold twine around the head or top for hanging.
Now you can hang your angels on a tree, wreath, or window, and let their gentle presence brighten your space like a soft holiday glow.
Tips:
I made a set for a friend’s holiday party, and mixing hair colors gave each angel a unique charm!
Use vintage lace for an extra touch of elegance, and if the pods are brittle, seal them with a light varnish first.
