Like gentle creatures born from the earth’s springtime whispers, these okra bunny ornaments sway with grace.
Each pod, painted white and crowned with floppy ears, dances in the breeze, a tale of new beginnings woven with raffia and ribbon, inviting the spirit of the garden into your festive moments.
Materials Needed
- 8–10 dried okra pods (long and straight)
- White acrylic paint
- Pink and white felt or foam (for ears)
- Raffia or straw
- Green ribbon
- Small googly eyes or black paint
- Yellow craft feathers or felt
- Hot glue gun or eco-friendly craft glue
- Twine or string (6-8 inches per ornament)
- Scissors
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Select your dried okra pods and paint them white to give them that fluffy bunny look.
Then lay them out to dry on a sunny windowsill, letting the paint set like fresh spring snow.
Step 2: Cut pink and white felt or foam into ear shapes, about 2 inches long and glue them to the top of each pod, with the pink inside peeking out for that classic bunny charm.
Step 3: Glue small googly eyes or paint black dots near the top, adding a tiny yellow feather or felt piece below for a beak or nose to complete the face with a playful smile.
Step 4: Tie a green ribbon into a bow around the neck area of each pod, securing it with glue for a festive touch that ties the look together.
Step 5: Create a mini hat with raffia or straw, twisting it into a small circle or cone, and glue it atop the ears, angling it for a whimsical effect.
Step 6: Attach a loop of twine at the top for hanging. Hang your bunnies on a tree, porch, or gift package, and let their springtime spirit hop into your heart.
Tips:
I crafted these with my kids for Easter, and they loved mixing ear sizes for a quirky bunny family!
If pods are too brittle, seal them with varnish first, and use natural materials like raffia from your garden. Then add tiny pom-poms for tails if you want extra fluff.
