Sometimes the best crafts happen when you let yourself be playful.
You can see a peanut shell painted green suddenly looks like a tiny stalk, and with a pom-pom top, it transforms into broccoli with personality.
Also, add a smile and some eyes, and you’ve got a whole veggie family smiling back at you. It’s like creating a garden of joy, one peanut at a time.
Materials Needed
- 10-12 whole peanut shells (pick sturdy, intact ones)
- Green acrylic paint + paintbrushes
- Green pom-poms (1 per peanut, about 1-1.5” wide)
- Googly eyes (or small circles of white and black paper)
- Red marker or paint for smiles
- Hot glue gun or craft glue
- Optional: cardboard base
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Paint all peanut shells green. Let them dry completely before moving on.
Step 2: Glue a green pom-pom to the top of each peanut shell, this creates the fluffy broccoli crown.
Step 3: Add googly eyes near the top of the peanut stalk. If you don’t have them, cut out small white circles from paper and draw black dots for pupils.
Step 4: Draw or paint on happy red smiles. Each one can have a slightly different expression to give your broccoli characters personality.
Step 5: Stand them upright on a flat surface. If they wobble, glue them to a small cardboard or wooden base.
Step 6: Finally, arrange your broccoli family together and enjoy the cheer they bring.
Tips:
I noticed that mixing different shades of green paint on the peanuts before attaching the pom-poms gave a more realistic look, almost like real broccoli stalks.
Try making a few tall and a few short ones for variety, they look more like a playful little veggie crew that way.
