Imagine crafting a little piece of holiday fantasy that looks as if it could have popped out of Whoville.
This mossy Christmas hat planter curls gracefully at the tip, where a single ornament swings like a shiny bell.
Stars and ribbon add layers of rustic charm, while warm fairy lights peek from the greenery, creating a cozy glow at night.
It’s small enough to fit indoors but eye-catching enough to make your guests smile the moment they walk in.
Materials Needed
- 1 small woven basket or shallow planter base (8”-10” diameter)
- Moss sheets or loose decorative moss (enough to cover the cone)
- 1 wire cone frame (12”-14” tall)
- Floral wire for shaping and securing moss
- 1 small evergreen sprig bundle (fresh or artificial)
- 1-2 wooden stars (3”-5” size)
- Rustic ribbon (12” length)
- 1 hanging ornament (2”-3”)
- Battery-operated fairy lights (small strand)
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Start with a wire cone frame placed securely inside the woven basket or planter base.
Step 2: Cover the cone with moss, wrapping and pinning it with floral wire until the entire structure is hidden.
Step 3: Bend the tip of the cone forward to create a whimsical hat shape, curling it slightly for character.
Step 4: Attach the ornament at the tip with wire or ribbon so it dangles naturally.
Step 5: Add evergreen sprigs around the base to soften the edges and fill in any gaps.
Step 6: Decorate with wooden stars and tie a rustic ribbon bow for added charm.
Step 7: Weave fairy lights around the base and through the moss for a soft, magical glow when lit up in the evening.
Note:
If using fresh moss, mist it lightly every few days to keep it looking vibrant throughout the season.
