How to Craft a Bird Picture Using Pressed Flowers and LeavesYou don’t need to be an artist to create something stunning like this bird made entirely from pressed flowers and leaves.

Think of each petal as a feather, each leaf as a stroke of color. The result is a soft, textured picture that feels both delicate and full of life.

You can frame it as wall art or gift it to someone who loves birds, it’s a craft that captures both patience and imagination.

Materials Needed

  • Pressed flowers and leaves (variety of colors: dark, light, and vibrant)
  • Thick art paper or cardstock (8”×10” size works well)
  • Small scissors or craft knife
  • Tweezers
  • Clear-drying craft glue or Mod Podge
  • Fine-tip brush
  • Optional: picture frame

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Choose your base paper and lightly sketch a simple outline of a bird perched on a branch.

You should keep it minimal, just a guide for placing your petals and leaves.

Step 2: Sort your pressed materials by color. Dark leaves work beautifully for wings and head, while lighter petals make a soft chest area.

Small daisy centers can even double as background flowers for the scene.

Step 3: Using tweezers, carefully arrange the pieces inside the sketch. Then overlap them slightly to mimic the layering of feathers.

Don’t glue yet as this is your chance to experiment until it looks right.

Step 4: Once you’re happy with the design, apply a thin layer of glue to the back of each piece and press it gently onto the paper.

Now, use a fine-tip brush so you don’t damage the fragile petals.

Step 5: Fill the background with small pressed flowers, grasses, or extra leaves to create a natural setting around your bird.

Step 6: Let it dry completely before framing. A simple glass frame will protect your work and make the colors stand out beautifully.

Tip:

If you find a flower or leaf with the perfect curve, let it guide the shape of your bird, it often feels like nature has already done half the drawing for you.
