This larger-than-life prop stands around 6 to 7 feet tall and 8 feet wide, using PVC pipes (1-inch diameter) for the structure.
Each leg, about 4-5 feet long, connects to a central frame supporting the spider body, which can be made from chicken wire wrapped in black fabric or a large foam shape.
The top half of a mannequin or Halloween figure forms the humanoid torso.
Materials Needed
- Eight 4-5 ft 1-inch PVC pipes for legs
- Elbow joints and connectors
- Chicken wire or foam body (3 ft long)
- Black spray paint and faux fur
- Old mannequin or Halloween prop torso
- Hot glue gun and zip ties
- Red LED lights for glowing eyes
- Fake blood or fabric paint for detail
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Begin by forming the spider’s frame. Use a T-shaped PVC connector for the center and attach four legs on each side.
You can also adjust their angles so it looks ready to pounce.
Step 2: Wrap the PVC legs with black tape or faux fur to give them bulk and a creepy, hairy look. Then add tufts of fur at the joints for realism.
Step 3: Create the spider body using chicken wire or foam. Shape it into a bulbous form and attach it securely to the PVC frame.
Step 4: Mount the mannequin torso on top and secure it with zip ties or glue.
Next, paint the skin pale, add dark streaks, and finish with a splash of fake blood.
Step 5: Attach glowing red eyes to bring her to life or to unnerve anyone who dares walk by.
Step 6: Anchor the legs into the ground with stakes to keep your Spider Woman standing tall and terrifying through the season.
Tips:
If you want her to move, connect a small motor to the legs for subtle motion.
A fog machine placed behind her can make it look like she just crawled out of a web of smoke.
