There’s something magical about capturing a flower’s delicate form and giving it a new life inside a bookmark.
With this project, you get to combine pressed blossoms with colorful beads that can spell out anything meaningful such as “JOY,” “LOVE,” or even a favorite quote.
These bookmarks are easy to make but look incredibly special, like tiny windows of springtime tucked between your pages.
You’ll find yourself experimenting with different blooms, beads, and strings, turning each bookmark into a reflection of the reader who’ll use it.
Materials Needed
- Pressed flowers (3-4 per bookmark, about 1–2” in size)
- Cardstock or kraft paper (2”×6” strips)
- Self-laminating sheets or clear contact paper (3”×7” pieces)
- Scissors and ruler
- Hole punch (⅛” size)
- Elastic cord or embroidery floss (12” length per bookmark)
- Alphabet beads (6-10 letters per string)
- Decorative beads (4-6 per string, 6-8mm in size)
- Glue stick or acid-free craft glue
- Optional: printed quotes or Bible verses (cut to 1”×3” strips)
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Cut your cardstock into strips about 2” wide × 6” tall. You can choose earthy tones like kraft brown for a natural look, or white to make flowers pop.
Step 2: Arrange 3-4 pressed flowers on the strip. Secure lightly with a glue stick to keep them in place.
If you’d like, glue a small printed quote or verse alongside the flowers for added meaning.
Step 3: Carefully cover the strip with a self-laminating sheet or sandwich it between two pieces of contact paper.
Then smooth out air bubbles with a ruler edge. Trim the edges, leaving a small ⅛” border to seal.
Step 4: Punch a hole at the top center of the laminated bookmark.
You now thread a 12” piece of elastic cord or embroidery floss through the hole and knot it securely.
Step 5: Add alphabet beads to spell a word or short phrase.
Follow with 2-3 decorative beads on each side for balance. Tie a knot at the end to secure them.
Step 6: Adjust the bead string so it dangles gracefully from the bookmark.
Finally, trim any excess cord and seal the knot with a tiny drop of glue if needed.
Tips:
For a seasonal touch, choose flowers that reflect the time of year such as daisies for spring, golden leaves for autumn.
These bookmarks look especially beautiful when tied with satin ribbon instead of cord for a more elegant finish.
