There’s something special about handmade fabric ornaments, they carry a touch of nostalgia.
These heart-shaped decorations are simple to make and can be personalized with fabrics that remind you of family, holidays, or even old clothing you want to upcycle.
Specially, they’re not just decorations; they’re keepsakes.
Materials Needed
- Fabric scraps (plaid, burlap, floral) – 10” x 10” each
- Polyester stuffing or cotton – about 1 cup per heart
- Ribbon strips – 12” long each for hanging + extra for bows
- Scissors or pinking shears
- Needle & thread or sewing machine
- Hot glue gun (optional)
- Paper & pencil for making a heart template (about 6” tall)
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Draw and cut a heart template from paper. Place it on folded fabric and cut two identical heart shapes.
Step 2: Place the two fabric hearts together (right sides facing out if you like the raw edge look, or in if you want a neater seam).
Step 3: Stitch around the edge, leaving a 2” opening. If you prefer no sewing, use hot glue along the edges instead.
Step 4: Fill the heart with polyester stuffing until plump, then close the opening with stitches or glue.
Step 5: Attach a ribbon loop at the top for hanging. Finally, add a bow for extra charm.
Tip:
For a festive touch, you can sew in small bells or add lace trim along the edges.
