Forget boring ties, these crocheted Christmas versions are quirky, colorful, and bursting with holiday character.
Imagine showing up with a snowman around your neck or gifting a Santa tie that becomes the talk of the evening.
They’re handmade, fun, and a little silly, which is exactly what makes them so perfect.
Materials Needed
- 4 skeins of cotton yarn (red, green, white, and brown – 50g each)
- Size 3.5 mm crochet hook
- Black embroidery thread (for facial details)
- Embroidery needle
- Small buttons or beads (for eyes and accents, 8-10 pcs)
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Begin by crocheting a flat tie base about 2.5” wide and 45-50” long, adjusting for the person who will wear it.
Step 2: Pick your design such as snowman, Santa, reindeer, or Christmas tree.
Crochet small shapes separately (a circle for the snowman face, a triangle for Santa’s hat, small ovals for reindeer noses, etc.).
Step 3: Sew the appliqué pieces onto the tie base with matching yarn. Also, add details with embroidery thread, like smiles, snowflakes, or “Ho Ho Ho.”
Step 4: Attach buttons or beads for eyes and tiny accents to bring the characters to life.
Step 5: Weave in loose yarn ends neatly, then steam-block the tie so it keeps its shape and lies flat.
Step 6: Wrap the tie in tissue paper with a bow, it’s ready to be the most festive gift under the tree!
Note:
I once gifted a Santa crochet tie, and it instantly became the centerpiece of family photos, don’t be surprised if your handmade tie steals the show!
