Think of this project as turning back the hands of time.
Instead of ticking, your clock becomes a vessel holding fragments of life, a wedding photo, pressed flowers, maybe a tiny bottle of sand from your honeymoon.
Each time you glance at it, you’re reminded that the most precious moments aren’t lost; they’re simply kept safe inside.
Materials Needed
- 1 vintage-style alarm clock (5”-7” diameter, hollow interior works best)
- 1 printed photo (trimmed to about 3” × 4”)
- Decorative filler (silk flowers, lace, beads, or mini charms – 10-15 pieces)
- 1 small bottle of craft glue (4 oz)
- 1 pair of small scissors
- Optional: metallic paint (1 small jar)
- Optional: a few tiny glass bottles or trinkets
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Find a vintage or thrifted alarm clock and carefully remove the glass front and clock mechanism so the inside is hollow. Then wipe it down so you have a clean surface to work with.
Step 2: Choose the main photo you’d like to feature. Trim it to fit the curve of the clock’s interior. A black-and-white wedding or family portrait works beautifully for this romantic display.
Step 3: Place the photo inside against the back wall and secure it with craft glue. You should hold it in place for a minute until it sets.
Step 4: Begin arranging small embellishments around the photo.
Next, tuck silk flowers at the base, layer lace or ribbon, or place a mini charm or bottle inside. Think of it like creating a tiny stage where your memory is the star.
Step 5: Once everything is in place, add finishing touches such as metallic paint on the frame edges or a dusting of gold to highlight the antique look.
Step 6: Display your shadowbox clock on a shelf, nightstand, or mantelpiece. It works as both a decorative art piece and a heartfelt tribute to moments worth holding onto.
Notes: This project is especially lovely as a wedding or anniversary gift, it turns a photo into a piece of storytelling decor that feels timeless.
