Instead of a receipt or random scrap of paper, you’re greeted with bold colors and comic energy every time you return.
It’s almost like two stories holding hands as the one you’re reading, and the one you clipped from your comics.
They make fantastic gifts too; I once tucked one inside a friend’s book and they still use it years later. It’s small, but it carries memory and personality.
Materials Needed
- Comic book pages (choose bold panels with eye-catching art)
- Scissors or paper cutter
- Laminating sheets or clear contact paper
- Hole punch
- Ribbon or tassel (optional, about 6-8 inches long)
- Ruler and pencil
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Pick your favorite panels and mark out rectangles about 2″ × 6″. Make sure the artwork is centered so the best part of the panel shines through.
Step 2: Cut out your strips carefully with scissors or a paper cutter for clean edges.
Step 3: Place the strip inside a laminating sheet or cover both sides with clear contact paper. This not only makes it durable but gives it that smooth, glossy finish.
Step 4: Trim any excess laminate, leaving a tiny edge around the comic strip to seal it.
Step 5: Punch a hole at the top center and tie in a ribbon or tassel. This small detail adds a handmade charm and makes your bookmark feel finished.
Tips:
When I made these, I realized contrasting tassels make the panels pop like a bright red ribbon against a black-and-white strip.
If you’re gifting them, slip one into a book instead of wrapping paper.
