How to Make A Embroidery Hoop Succulent Planter

Think of this project as a marriage between craft and nature. The embroidery hoops are reimagined into curved wooden arches that cradle a cluster of succulents.

Their soft greens and pinks contrast beautifully with the structure’s clean lines, creating balance and harmony.

The result is light, airy, and alive with an arrangement that feels both earthy and modern. Beginners will love how forgiving this project is, and experienced crafters will enjoy the endless possibilities for customization.

Materials Needed

  • 3-4 embroidery hoops (6″-10″)
  • Wood glue or strong hot glue
  • Small container or dish
  • Moss or coconut fiber liner
  • Succulents (a mix of small sizes)
  • Succulent potting soil
  • Scissors or pruning shears
  • Optional: spray paint or wood stain

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Separate your embroidery hoops and choose 3-4 halves. Then arrange them so they intersect, forming a spherical or dome-like structure. You can play with angles until find a balanced shape.

Step 2: Use wood glue to secure the hoops where they cross, then hold them in place until the glue sets. You should end up with an open globe shape.

Step 3: Place a small dish or shallow container at the base of the hoops. This will hold the soil and prevent mess. You ca also line the dish with moss or coconut fiber to create a natural bedding.

Step 4: Fill the container with succulent soil. Begin arranging your succulents, placing larger ones in the center and smaller ones around the edges. Tuck moss between plants to cover gaps.

Step 5: Adjust the hoops so they frame the succulents without squashing them. Trim any extra roots or leaves if needed.

Step 6: (Optional) Spray paint or stain the hoops before assembly if you want them to match your décor. Gold, black, or natural wood all look stunning.

Step 7: Place your hoop planter somewhere bright but not in direct harsh sunlight. Water sparingly, letting the soil dry completely between watering.
