Imagine your Christmas tree dressed not only in lights and garlands but also in a token that celebrates your pet.
This wood slice ornament captures that spirit.
The black paw print symbolizes your pup’s place in your home, while the tiny Santa hat makes it feel like they’re celebrating right along with you.
It’s the kind of handmade touch that turns a tree into a family storybook, with your pet at the heart of the tale.
Materials Needed
- 1 natural wood slice (approx. 3-4” diameter, with pre-drilled hole)
- Black acrylic paint (1 small bottle)
- Red and white acrylic paint (for the Santa hat, 1 each)
- Small detail paintbrush set (sizes 0-2)
- Jute string or twine (12-14” length)
- 2–3 wooden craft beads (0.5” size for accent)
- Paper towel and water cup for cleanup
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Start with a smooth, dry wood slice. If needed, sand lightly to create an even painting surface.
Step 2: Using a medium brush, paint a paw print in the center of the slice with black acrylic paint.
You can freehand it or trace your pet’s actual paw for a more personal design.
Step 3: Once the paw is dry, switch to red and white paint to create a small Santa hat resting on the top left pad.
Plus, add the fluffy trim and pom-pom with dots of white paint for detail.
Step 4: Cut a length of jute string and thread it through the hole. Then slide 2-3 beads onto the string above the slice, tying a knot to secure.
Step 5: Hang it proudly on your tree, or make a few extras as gifts for fellow pet lovers.
Tip:
For extra shine, you can seal the ornament with a layer of clear varnish to protect it year after year.
