For the next cozy afternoon at home, why not try something wonderfully creative?

Making paper snowflakes is a simple yet magical way to transform plain paper into intricate, one-of-a-kind decorations.

Last weekend, I gave it a go, and it instantly brought a warm, nostalgic vibe to my home. It’s an easy, budget-friendly craft that anyone can do, and the results are simply stunning.

Materials Needed

  • 10 Sheets of plain white printer paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Eraser

Step-by-Step Guide on Making Paper Snowflakes

Step 1: Preparing the Paper

I started with a square piece of paper. If you’re using regular printer paper like I did, you’ll need to trim it into a square first.

You simply fold one corner diagonally to meet the opposite edge, then cut off the excess strip.

Step 2: Folding the Paper

Next, I folded the square into a triangle, then folded it again to make a smaller triangle.

Finally, I folded the triangle into thirds, adjusting the edges to make them as even as possible.

Step 3: Sketching the Design

Now you grab a pencil and draw patterns on the folded triangle. You should start with simple shapes including zigzags, diamonds, and curved lines.

Step 4: Cutting the Pattern

Using my scissors, I carefully cut along the lines. This part required some patience, especially with the smaller details but it was also super satisfying.

Tips: Take your time and don’t cut too close to the edges, or the snowflake might fall apart when you unfold it.

Step 5: Unfolding the Snowflake

Now, you gently unfold the paper, and a gorgeous snowflake appeared. This part felt like opening a gift because you never know exactly how it will turn out.

How I Used My Snowflakes

After making a handful of snowflakes, I decided to hang them around my living room.

I attached some to the windows with double-sided tape, strung a few on thread to create a mobile, and even used one as a decorative layer on a wrapped gift.
