I’ve always believed the sweetest gifts are the ones that spark memories.
When you layer flour, oats, candies, and chocolate chips in a glass jar, it’s like stacking tiny bits of Christmas joy.
Tie a festive ribbon around the lid, slip in a handwritten baking instruction card, and you’ve turned pantry staples into something magical.
Materials Needed
- 1 quart (32 oz) glass mason jar with lid
- 1 cup (120 g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (90 g) rolled oats
- 3/4 cup (150 g) brown sugar
- 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (170 g) chocolate chips or candies (M&Ms work perfectly)
- Ribbon, twine, or holiday tags
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Start by whisking together flour, baking soda, and salt. Then carefully pour it into the bottom of the jar and gently tap to level it out.
Step 2: Add a layer of oats on top, spreading them evenly so the lines look clean and defined.
Step 3: Next, layer in brown sugar, pressing it down slightly to keep the jar neat. You need to follow with a layer of granulated sugar.
Step 4: Add the chocolate chips or festive candies on top as the final, colorful layer.
Step 5: Seal the jar tightly and decorate the lid with ribbon, twine, or small ornaments.
Step 6: Attach a little instruction card that says:
“Pour contents into a bowl. Add 1/2 cup melted butter, 1 large egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Finally, mix, scoop, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes.”
Note:
I like to slip a peppermint candy or mini cookie cutter under the ribbon—it makes the jar feel even more personal and festive.
