There’s something meditative about weaving on a tiny scale.
As you loop yarn over and under each strand, you start to notice the rhythm with soft, steady, satisfying.
These miniature looms invite you to slow down and play with color, experimenting with how different threads interact.
Whether you’re crafting one as a quick afternoon project or building a series to hang as wall art, each piece feels like a small woven poem.
Materials Needed
- Wooden squares or sturdy cardboard pieces (4”×4” each)
- Yarn in assorted colors (cotton, wool, or acrylic)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Masking tape (optional, for securing yarn ends)
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Start by wrapping yarn vertically around your square to form the warp threads. Keep them evenly spaced and tight. Tape the ends to the back.
Step 2: Cut a long piece of yarn in your chosen color for the weft. Thread it through the needle.
Step 3: Begin weaving by passing the yarn under and over each vertical strand.
On the next row, alternate the pattern so the yarn goes over where it went under before.
Step 4: Gently push each new row upward with your fingers or the needle to keep the weave tight and even.
Step 5: When your design is complete, tie off the ends securely and trim any extra threads.
Tips:
Try mixing thick and thin yarns for texture or metallic thread for a little shimmer. These mini weavings also make lovely coasters or ornaments when finished!
