Imagine your pet tucked under a handmade blanket, dreaming away after a long day of play.
You’ll weave a small, colorful piece using yarn scraps and a simple paper loom, then combine it with a printed picture of your pet or a cute animal photo.
The result looks like a cozy bedtime portrait straight out of a storybook.
Kids especially love this idea as it’s playful, relaxing, and teaches weaving in the most adorable way possible.
Materials Needed
- Cardstock or sturdy colored paper (8×10 inches)
- Printed animal photos (cats, dogs, or your own pet)
- Yarn in assorted colors (8-10 strands, about 2 feet each)
- Scissors
- Tape or glue
- Needle or straw for weaving
- Ruler and pencil
Step-by-step Guide
Step 1: Cut vertical slits at the bottom half of your cardstock to form your loom. Each slit should be about ½ inch apart.
Step 2: Thread yarn vertically through the slits to create the warp base. Then tape the ends to the back for stability.
Step 3: Choose bright yarn colors and start weaving horizontally, alternating over and under the warp threads.
Step 4: Push each row down gently to tighten and change colors every few rows for a striped blanket effect.
Step 5: Once done, trim and secure the ends at the back.
Step 6: Glue your pet photo above the blanket and adjust so it looks like they’re tucked in.
Tips:
Add small felt shapes or buttons to the blanket for texture, or write the pet’s name beneath for an extra personal touch.
