A Fun Halloween Mummy Craft with Just Yarn and a Plate

A Fun Halloween Mummy Craft with Just Yarn and a PlateImagine a mummy hiding right in plain sight, its goofy eyes peeking out through tangled bandages. That’s exactly the vibe this craft creates!

By lacing yarn across a paper plate, you end up with a web of wrappings that looks both silly and spooky.

Each child can wrap the yarn differently, making no two mummies alike. It’s part puzzle, part art project, and it brings out loads of giggles when those big eyes finally peek through.

Materials Needed

  • 1 white paper plate (9” standard size)
  • 1 ball of white yarn or string (about 15-20 ft. per plate)
  • 1 pair of large googly eyes (1” size works best)
  • Black marker for drawing a mouth
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Tape or glue

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Punch holes evenly around the edge of the paper plate, spacing them about 1 inch apart.

Step 2: Cut a long piece of yarn and tape one end to the back of the plate to secure it.

Step 3: Start weaving the yarn through the holes in random directions to create mummy wraps. Let kids crisscross the string for a fun, messy look.

Step 4: Once the plate is wrapped to your liking, tape the end of the yarn to the back.

Step 5: Glue on googly eyes so they peek through the yarn and draw a little mouth underneath.

Step 6: Hang it up or display it on a shelf, your yarn mummy is ready to spook and smile!

Tips:

Try using black plates and white yarn for a high-contrast mummy, or glow-in-the-dark yarn for an extra spooky twist.
