Bring a Garden to Life with Yarn-Woven Paper Plate FlowersImagine sitting by the window on a sunny afternoon, creating a field of yarn flowers that won’t ever fade.

Each petal you weave feels like a slow moment of peace with bright pinks, soft yellows, and sky blues twining into a pattern of your own making.

It’s a simple project with endless ways to play: mix yarn textures, overlap colors, and let your imagination shape your bouquet.

When you’re done, your paper plate blooms will remind you that handmade beauty often grows from the simplest materials.

Materials Needed

  • Paper plates (8-10 inches wide, any color)
  • Yarn in various bright shades (8-10 colors)
  • Scissors and pencil
  • Hole puncher
  • Glue or tape
  • Felt leaves or construction paper (optional)

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Cut 6-8 evenly spaced slits from the edge of the paper plate toward the center to form petals.

Then punch small holes near the rim if you prefer threading.

Step 2: Choose your yarn colors. Start weaving by looping the yarn through one slit, then across the plate to another, pulling it tight to create petal shapes.

Step 3: Continue wrapping and weaving the yarn until each petal looks full and textured.

You can also combine two colors in one petal for a more dimensional look.

Step 4: For the flower center, weave tightly in a circular pattern using contrasting yarn, creating a neat finish.

Step 5: Cut felt leaves and glue them to the edge. You can even add stems made from straws or wooden sticks for a 3D bouquet effect.

Tips:

Use different yarn weights for texture variety, or paint the paper plate background for a more natural garden feel.
