How to Turn Pressed Ferns into a Festive Holiday TreeImagine crafting a Christmas tree that never fades, one that stays bright long after the holiday lights are packed away.

Pressed fern leaves form the evergreen branches, while colorful petals mimic baubles in purple, red, orange, and gold.

This art feels like a small forest celebration captured on paper, a perfect mix of holiday spirit and botanical beauty.

Materials Needed

  • 1 long pressed fern frond (10-12 inches tall)
  • 10-15 smaller pressed fern leaves
  • Pressed flower petals in various colors (red, purple, yellow, orange)
  • White cardstock or watercolor paper (A4 or 9”×12”)
  • Craft tweezers
  • Acid-free glue or Mod Podge
  • Fine paintbrush
  • Optional: frame (11”×14”)

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Lay your cardstock on a flat surface. Then place the tallest fern frond vertically in the center to form the tree’s spine and base shape.

Step 2: Add smaller fern leaves along the sides, angling them outward to mimic branches.

You should layer them from bottom to top, trimming where necessary for a tapered tree shape.

Step 3: Carefully glue down each fern using a thin layer of adhesive.

Next, press gently with parchment paper or a clean cloth to secure without damaging the delicate leaves.

Step 4: Use colorful pressed petals as ornaments. You scatter them evenly across the branches, alternating colors for a balanced look.

Step 5: Add a standout petal like red or gold at the top as the star. Let the glue dry completely before framing.

Tip:

You can make smaller versions of this pressed fern Christmas tree and turn them into handmade holiday cards.

They feel extra special because each one is unique.
