How to Craft a Hanging Star Hoop for a Bright Holiday WindowPicture this: a wooden hoop dressed with pine sprigs and red berries, stars cut from old book pages hanging like constellations, and little snowflake ornaments glinting when sunlight touches them.

This project has a certain Nordic elegance. It transforms a plain window into a festive frame, where outside views mingle with the twinkle of handmade décor.

Making it feels like weaving together the best of winter: the calm of snowy branches, the sparkle of frosted nights, and the wonder of stars above.

Once hung, it’s not just a window decoration, it’s a reminder to pause, breathe, and let the season’s beauty in.

Materials Needed

  • 1 large wooden or metal hoop (16”-18” diameter)
  • Fresh or faux pine branches (6-8 sprigs)
  • Red berry picks or faux clusters (4-5 stems)
  • Paper or cardboard stars (3-4, about 6”-8” wide)
  • 3-4 lightweight ornaments (snowflakes or baubles, 2”-3” size)
  • Fishing line or clear thread
  • Floral wire and wire cutters
  • Scissors
  • Command hooks or window suction hooks

Step-by-step Guide

Step 1: Start by attaching the pine branches to one side of the hoop using floral wire. Let some extend outward naturally to keep the design light and airy.

Step 2: Layer in berry clusters for a pop of color, tucking them between the greenery.

Then secure firmly with wire so they don’t shift once the hoop is hung.

Step 3: Cut stars out of sturdy paper or use pre-made decorative stars. Next, attach fishing line to each star and hang them inside the hoop at staggered heights.

Step 4: Add lightweight ornaments such as snowflakes or baubles. Keep them balanced so they look as if they’re floating in the hoop.

Step 5: Once the inside elements are hung, double-check the arrangement.

You can adjust strings until the stars and ornaments sit evenly without tangling.

Step 6: Secure the entire hoop to your window frame using suction hooks or small Command hooks. Make sure it sits centered in the window for best effect.

Tip:

For an evening glow, weave a short string of battery-operated fairy lights around the hoop.

At night, the stars and ornaments will sparkle like a constellation against the glass.
